The three-stage wash

A full wash is three stages, and the HUD card at the bottom of the screen tells the player which one they are on.

1. Foam

Spray soap onto the car. Foam marks land where the jet hits — on the ground, on walls, and on the car's bodywork, where they stick to the panel and travel with it.

2. Scrub

Set the gun aside and scrub the car with the sponge.

  • With target: choose Scrub The Vehicle With The Sponge on the vehicle
  • Without target: press E at the vehicle when the card asks for it

Scrubbing puts a sponge in the player's right hand, drops them into a crouch and plays the cleaning animation for ScrubTime seconds while the card's bar fills.

It cancels with no effect if the player presses E again, walks further than ScrubMaxDistance from the vehicle, or dies.

3. Rinse

Pick the gun back up in water mode and rinse the car off. Water washes decals — blood, dirt and foam — back off surfaces.

Each tool does its own share

SoapPortion, ScrubPortion and WaterPortion must add up to 1.0. Each removes its own share of the dirt, so skipping a step leaves the car half done.

Set any portion to 0 to drop that tool from the job entirely — the stages re-balance themselves and the last enabled stage is the one that finishes the clean. A one-step rinse bay or the full three-stage detail, your call.

Using the gun

Walk up to a washer and press E (or choose Pickup Pressure Gun with target). Hold left mouse button to spray at a vehicle within MaxSplashDistance.

Switch between water and soap with the target option on the machine, or press InteractionKey2 (G) while standing next to it. Each mode has its own clean rate. The on-screen badge shows which mode you are in and pops when you switch.

Place the gun back by returning to the machine and pressing E, or press E away from it to drop the nozzle.

The gun cannot fire for the first moment after pickup — the hose has to reach it first. If the hose is missing the gun will not spray at all and the "drop the nozzle" prompt is shown instead.

Proximity

The card only appears when the player is actually looking at the vehicle (HudViewDot), and both the player and the vehicle must be within PumpRadius of the washer for the wash to count.

Breaking the hose

Walking too far snaps it, controlled by RopeMaxLength (or the van's own HoseMaxLength). This can optionally cause an explosion and charges the PumpBreakFee. A van hose never explodes — the blast would go off inside it.
