Using the hose
Picking it up
Walk up to a fire hydrant or a fire truck.
- With target: aim at it and choose Pickup Fire Hose.
- Without target: aim at it and press the
InteractionKey(E by default).
Spraying
Hold the attack control (left mouse button). Aim at a fire and the water or foam puts it out. The vanilla water cannon arcs like the real fire truck cannon.
Putting it back
Return to the source and press E (or choose Place Fire Hose with target). Pressing E away from the source drops the hose where you stand.
The line lays where you walked
The hose is not a rope strung between two points. It lays along the ground on the path you actually walked, follows you round corners instead of cutting through them, and drags behind you as you move.
This is our own fabric solver rather than GTA's rope attachment, which is why it can do things a normal rope cannot — including going up a ladder.
Climbing with it
Climb a ladder with the hose still connected. The gun holsters for the climb and re-equips at the top, the line pays out up the rungs and lays across the roof behind you.
- The climb counts toward the hose length — twelve metres up costs twelve metres of hose.
- The full-stretch warning still fires while you are on the ladder.
- A hose extender can only be dropped with both feet on the ground.
- Step off onto a roof, or jump off, and the hanging line drops to the ground on its own.
Breaking
Walking too far stretches the hose until it snaps. Before that happens you get a flashing full-stretch alert offering a key to drop an extender — see Hose extenders.
A snapped hydrant hose can optionally explode (ExplodeAfterRopeBreak). Truck hoses, extender hoses and pump hoses never explode — only mains pressure can.
